Texas Licensing Questions

I have a friend who is not licensed to sell Life/Health Insurance but wants to start down the road. I went on the TX DOI site and it was a bit confusing so your input is appreciated.

  • What is the first step in TX?
  • Does he need to complete pre-licensing?
  • Do you know any insurance prep schools in the SE side of Houston?
Thanks all for your help!

You can self study or take the class (around $200). The class is highly recommended and offered through Kaplan Financial , they have locations off of Beltway 8 (loop around the city).

The testing is done through Prometric I believe, and digital fingerprints are done at same location as testing for around $45 which includes the background check, you can do ink fingerprints but it is not recommended anymore as so many come back as they can not read them.

You do not need a sponsor anymore, you used to need an "appointment" to get the license issued which was challenging but I believe that has been dropped as well.

Easy stuff.

Try the Prometric website or call TDI as well.

If they want a "job" I am hiring on the west part of town and pay for the licensing if they qualify.
