I have a client who wants me to be his agent of record for a large life insurance policy. It is with Hartford. Because of his other business it is probably worth the hassle.

Anyone know if I can go direct or if there are FMO's that represent Hartford? I contacted them on their website and have not gotten an answer yet.

Suggestion: try to find out who the wholesaler for Hartford is in your area. They used to have employee wholesalers...can't speak for now though. If you can find them, they'll know how to work the system to make it easy. Or they should.

I've run into a dead end in the past when a new client wanted me to be on the agent on their life policy, but I hadn't written business with the company in the past. I was told that I already had to be contracted with the company to become the agent of record. In hindsight, I'm glad it worked out that way. Too much liability with the UL policy when I didn't get any compensated gain by being associated with it.

I would try the local wholesaler, I listened to one in my area from Hartford at a local CE meeting (so they're around), and try your luck.

You could always say NO.

OR, you could always ask yourself, why Hartford...? There appears to be something cooking there. Lots of investment losses, income has dropped substantially. They were seeking a merger months ago; that didn't happen. Why...?
Lots of questions, not enough answers. Just posing food for thought.

He is old, now uninsurable, and has a high face amount policy he wants me to help him with. It is not necessary that I become a Hartford agent to help him with it, but with an annual premium of 25k ... Primarily I will be managing other money and making the premium payments arrangements for him.

As far as actually selling the product. Probably not, unless someone specifically insisted on it for reasons I can't imagine. ;)

I have already decided I won't mess with it, and just help him with the annual premium payment. I don't jump through hoops without a big paycheck on the other side, and I don't like the large and pretentious companies.
