State of Mind
Trump just released a 7 point plan for the US healthcare system. Obviously #1 is to repeal Obamacare.

Summary:
1. Repeal Obamacare
2. Sell across state lines
3. 100% of premiums are tax deductible for individuals
4. Expand HSA use. Make contributions tax free and let it pass to heirs "without fear of any death penalty"
5. Require Price Transparency from Doctors/Clinics/Hospitals
6. Block Grant Medicaid to states
7. Remove "barriers" on importing prescriptions from overseas.

The reforms outlined above will lower healthcare costs for all Americans. They are simply a place to start. There are other reforms that might be considered if they serve to lower costs, remove uncertainty and provide financial security for all Americans. And we must also take actions in other policy areas to lower healthcare costs and burdens. Enforcing immigration laws, eliminating fraud and waste and energizing our economy will relieve the economic pressures felt by every American. It is the moral responsibility of a nation's government to do what is best for the people and what is in the interest of securing the future of the nation.

1- Won't happen
2- Won't work
3 - About 30% itemize that leaves 70% with no benefit
4- Unless HDHP rules are modified roughly 90% ineligible
6 - Will Bernie fund this new give away?
7 - I have clients ordering from Canada already. What barriers?

Maybe he wants it to be deductible in addition to the Standard Deduction?

He wants to open up HSAs to all citizens without any health plan requirements.

2-Does this mean I can live in Dallas and get Phoenix rates? That would be great.

***.

In his speech the other night, he brought up pre ex 3 or 4 times. Where's that bullet point?

What a mess......

Trump has learned to speak in generalities during this time. He's surfing on the passions of angered Americans. Later, he will need to come up with specifics. And he's going to have problems with earlier statements, like being for the individual mandate, and now against it, but wanting no pre-ex.

I like his idea of transparency of prices, and tax breaks (for premium and HSA). Even if he makes HSA accounts available to all, and premium tax breaks available before AGI, there are still a lot of people who pay little or no taxes and would not be able to afford the premium, much less wait until April 15th to get their tax break. Details, details.

State lines. LOL.

My thoughts exactly. At this stage, candidate Obama was promising...

1. The average family will see their premium slashed by $2,500.

2. If you like your plan, you can keep your plan.

3. If you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor.

4. If you have an existing condition, it won't affect your eligibility.**

5. Buying health insurance will be as simple as buying an airplane ticket.

6. The average premium will be less than $100 a month.

**Only 1 out of 6 of these promises actually kept.

President Obama may have ruined it for Trump, and anyone else with a plan. Maybe Americans won't believe any of them now?

Shouldn't have ever believed politicians. Could you imagine only buying airline tickets around the holidays....and people complain about blackouts now with credit card miles.
