From best I can tell, it appears that aggrigator links from rss and twitter seem to seo with approximate power to press release articles now, in that they jump up to top of the list then tank, but the overall linking that comes from them does carry weight.
I page 1ed in google in less than a week on a couple keywords with the hoppercrm site, with some articles and twitter as the primary link building.
It does appear that the shortened url links from like bit.ly get screwed up somewhat in link strength, but thats more my gut saying that than any results I've seen.

I think it's a bit different. Most URL shortening services pass all the link juice there is to your site.
Example: John's signature bit.ly link
bit.ly statistics for http://agentnavigator.com/ leads to AN homepage.
If you check the HTTP header request and responses, you will notice that it has the permanent 301 redirect and the link is also dofollow, which are the two main indicators for passing link juice.
