UHC strange letter to customers - Why?

I had 2 calls from customers on the same day last week about a strange letter they got from UHC. Both asked if they had insurance coverage from State Farm. Regarding prescription drug coverage, they would be glad to make sure that was coordinated with their other insurance.

Customer 1 has MAPD and State Farm auto insurance. Diabetic had low blood sugar incident and passed out. Drove into a forest and crashed. Wasn't hurt but medical records recorded it as a 'stroke'. Meds never changed. Incident occured 2 yrs ago - Okay, might be a liability thing?

Customer 2 is Medi/Medi on Dual SNP and only has State Farm Life insurance - not auto. Has had no incident but got same letter.

UHC folks have no idea what it is about. You folks have any clues?

State Farm also offers Medicare Supplements. Are you 100% sure neither of the customers have a Medicare Supplement with State Farm as well?

I'm thinking this could be some sort of phishing by UHC. Get them to call in and then switch them. But that would be bait and switch, which is illegal, but since it's UHC who at CMS cares, right?

You know, we talk about how the politicians gain tremendous amounts of money while they are in office, what about the leaders of CMS. I think they should be scrutinized too. I just can't trust anyone in government anymore. Not one!

i haven't seen this but it looks like legit coordination of benefits deleo. does client have previous employer retiree plan they forgot about or maybe stare farm insurance never updated with CMS it was dropped?

Does not call that number if it is different from the contact numbers in your UHC BOOKLET or found on their website. I have received several SCAM letters and emails using State Farm's name.

then throw them all out!

It's legit. I see this every 3-4 years. If my memory serves me correctly, it's usually been that the member had a bodily injury claim on their auto insurance and somehow, in whatever system they check for other coverage, it appears as other health insurance.

I think all they do is call the number provided and explain that it's not insurance and it goes away.

I think.

what about the leaders of CMS. I think they should be scrutinized too.

DOGE's Focus:
The Wall Street Journal reported that DOGE representatives have been working at CMS, gaining access to agency data systems and technology.

CMS Systems:
DOGE is reportedly examining key payment and contracting systems, including the CMS Acquisition Lifecycle Management system, which includes information about contracts.

Potential for Fraud and Waste:
DOGE officials are focused on identifying what they consider possible fraudulent or wasteful spending within the agency.

CMS Statement:
CMS has stated that they are collaborating with DOGE and have two senior agency veterans leading the collaboration, ensuring appropriate access to CMS systems and technology.

Musk's Comments:
Elon Musk has tweeted that he believes "big money fraud is happening" within the CMS.

Transparency Concerns:
Some have raised concerns about the lack of transparency regarding the data being accessed, how that information will be used, and the speed at which DOGE is moving, as well as the potential for unintentional privacy breaches given the amount of sensitive data stored in CMS systems.

Impact on Medicare and Medicaid:
DOGE's actions could potentially impact Medicare and Medicaid programs, which serve tens of millions of people and consume a significant portion of federal and state budgets

Don't worry Todd. If UHC were to do a bait and switch, they will simply investigate themselves and find no wrongdoing.

Maybe DOGE will alert Elon that he can create his own call center, and re-enroll all the MA beneficiaries, at a fraction of the current commission rate.

Id really like to see DOGE find some system of checks and balances to catch the fraudulent billing sooner.... the DOJ is only catching a fraction of it, and it's far too late.
