You know when you buy a car and then you notice how many other people are driving that same car. You didn't notice it before, but now that you own one, you see every one on the road.

Now that I'm getting my license I really notice the Progressive and Aflac and all of the others out there. I realize how much money they are spending and how much exposure they are getting in my home territory.

It kind of bumbs me out because I think "wow, Progressive has everyone in my town thinking that they can name their own price for insurance. They're not going to even take my call"

Anyone else ever think that ?

Squeed, I am assuming you are talking P&C because you mentioned Progressive...the fact of the matter is that like you mentioned you did not register these commercials as much when you where not entering or in the insurance field...The thing about commercials is that they do build some name recognition and brand awareness but unless the person has a need to insurance at the time they see the commercial they may not register it themselves...

Case in point I do a lot of 403(b) sales and I was meeting with a teacher in the teachers room and she is there taking notes and one of the things she mentions to me was that she was glad I had reached her because she didn't know who to talk to about setting up her 403(b), now as she is mentioning this I am noticing she is writing her notes in her StateFarm notebook with a HoraceMann pen on the wall behind her are 2 posters one is for Metlife the other is for the AIG VALIC rep as we walk back towards the office she takes a candy from this jar shaped like an apple but with an Equitable logo on it...Now all of these other people are competitors to me however the average consumer does not really register this...Are these things useless, no I'm sure these other agents get a call or so off of them but how I met this woman was that I have done and continue to do a good job with some of her coworkers and I was reffered to her.

There is still opportunity out there. Not everyone will buy from you some with slam the phone down or cuss you out...What you have to remember is that some will, some won't , so what...you just need to move on to the next prospect or refferal.
