Just another example of what nearly all seniors think about your $400 dollar (per 1000) mailers:

Funeral Advantage Program: Taking Advantage Of Seniors

At age 50, I'm starting to identify more with my potential client and when thinking of the best way to market FE to seniors, I'm of the opinion that mailers, though tried and true to many of you, are the 3rd best way to find potential clients---after calling from a targeted list and door knocking.

One thing I really try to avoid when speaking to Seniors is using (or overusing) the word FINAL. We all know death is final, but must you say that over and over or have that on your mailers?

We sell life insurance to people who have not prepared. Trying to dupe them with misleading mailers is guaranteed to fail around 98-99.5% of the time.

Oh, please. Cry me a river.

You'll get as many seniors crying over strange men door-knocking them randomly peddling burial insurance.

All I hear on the radio these days from the BBB is to BE WARY of door-to-door salesmen! The boogie-man is gonna getcha, Grannye!

Here are some takeaways you should ponder:

1) All *GOOD* marketing fails 99% of the time to garner a response, in all industries. You are a freaking marketing genius if your marketing consistently fails 98% or 97% percent of the time.

2) Think about your last point. All I need to be wildly successful is for 98% to 99% of my direct mail to fail.

I guess my main point is the misleading and repetitive elements of most mailers out there from a senior's point of view.

Also, more marketers are getting .5% returns over 2%---I was just being generous with the 98% figure.

Personally, I don't cold door knock anyone (yet) and if I decide to do that one day, it will be done in a non-threatening way. I doubt anyone is going to be intimidated by my 50 yr old, stocky (fat?), bald appearance as I walk slowly up to the door with my license around my neck.

This post wasn't to anger anyone who succeeds using mailers. I've not marketed much for FE in the past so I'm trying to get into that "mode".....researching what Seniors might really think about the traditional ways of marketing this product.

Some think 1% is awesome and for those, that's a great mentality of a glass half full. I'm just trying to figure out the best methods to market this demographic. If mailers were so successful, why do most agents who use them fail?

I'm still really green in this business but I think if someone fails using mailers it could be many reasons but the mailer is not one of them. I have worked around 40 leads my first month in this business and have had only one senior get nasty with me. This guy yelled something I could not understand and hung up on me.

I doorknock 95% of my leads but just could never get this guy at home.

When you can show the person something with their handwriting on it they warm up really fast.

Only nut-cases are offended by junk mail. It's so easy to throw it away. It's not like being interrupted by telemarketers which is a true interruption.

If you send ANY mailer with a phone number you will get a few nut-jobs that will call to be taken off your mail list.

As much as I think the "Funeral Advantage" that LH promotes is a worthless gimmick, it doesn't offend me or insult me to receive a mailer about it or anything else.

This lady is just mad that she is a target for senior Life products rather than whatever is marketed to 20-year olds.

Why would you allow the view of ONE person persuade you so?

The writer is making MONEY from a story.

"What nearly all seniors think" how do you know that? Who knows the "best way to market FE to seniors"? Go getem Charlie Brown.

This writter is making MONEY. That's why this story.

Good night pcb. Best wishes.

It does sound desperate, like a deadline story from a small town with nothing better to find a scapegoat...ah the old insurance company, easy target.

IMHO, keep your mind on getting out there and kicking some tail and taking names. You don't need to fill your mind with a story that isn't even worth the page it was printed on.. heck its not even in your place of living. (your in FL right).

I never said that story persuaded me. I did say it was an example of what seniors might think. 99 of 100 seniors probably do not like your cheesy, misleading mailers Rich. Keep doing them though.....they will be opening their mailboxes one less time a week soon enough.

Good night and best wishes to you as well.
