What Are You Willing to Do to Make It?

That is what Mark and everyone else on here are saying. If you will accept failure as an option you will fail. If you will do whatever it takes to succeed and I mean morally and ethically you can and will make it in this business.

When you 1st start out, you have to work twice as hard as agents that have been doing this for years.

It is like starting a fire. It takes a lot to get going, but once it takes off, it is not so hard to take care of.

I agree for the most part but I've seen some smart people make really dumb decisions in this economy as well as businesses go under or down size. So, yes the fire is still burning but just make sure you're putting plenty of wood on and stoking it once in awhile.

I am a new licensed Life Health agent. What is the best way to find a independent agent in South Florida to learn from?

You are really looking for an independent MGA that is willing to invest in time in you and take a big cut in your money. Only if he thinks you are worth the time. I think you are talking about 1 on 1 training. Which most MGA lose money to do this.

Try learning as much as you can on your own. Most companies have agent guides to learn their products. There is also a lot of good info on this forum to learn from.

Try going to Insurance Training & Education - Agent Navigator or Independent Life Insurance Agent Association - ILIAA

("By not being "pushy" it gives me the opportunity to contact them again at a later date.")

Frank, you are so so right!!!! Just today I will be calling a man who just lost his cousin (only 22 years old) in a farm accident to let him know that my thoughts are with him and his family. He's a farmer as well, and things like what happend to his cousin happen more offten then we think. I wouldn't be able to do this if I had been pushy.

I agree with what everyone is saying. I have been at this less than a year and not making enough to live off of. I spent the first 6 months teaching myself how to talk to people(used to work in an isolated area), how to sell, and about the insurance business. I work 12-14 hour days between phone and meeting with people or should I say driving to meet someone who doesn't show up. I know I need a new group of people to contact. These are not worth my time. I'm searching for a part time job so I can feed my family and keep my house but I'm not giving up. I am going to regroup and try again. This is a tough business when you don't get training, so get as much as you can in anyway you have too. It has gotten easier as time goes on. This forum has helped me more than my "mentor". Over the last 3 months my manager is finally listening to me about how the training isn't happening. The mentor is not doing his job. We lost several other agents for the same reasons I am looking for work. I like the insurance business so I won't leave it. Now that he is listening to me he is stepping up to make sure training does happen. Too late for me but the other new agents have a fighting chance now. So all in all, I thank every member of this forum who has posted helpful information and ideas for helping me be where I should have been 6 months ago income wise. Now I just have to keep diving in and get where I need to be so I don't have to work at Walmart (or wherever I end up) long.

I hear that same story so many times.

What kind of products were you attempting to sell? All may not be lost, you may still be able to successfully start a career in insurance.
