Where to Begin??

Well I've been thinking getting into the insurance business. I'm currently not licensed but looking to get licensed through Able Inc.

I'm 25 years old, I live in San Diego, California.

I work Sunday-Wednesday from 5am-3pm, and I'm off Thurs-Sat.

So i think i have some time to dedicate to this profession.

One thing I'd like to be clear about is where I'm going to go once I get my license. I'm obviously a newbie So I need training, and support.

I'm not to worried about commission percentage or any of that, I would like for it to be decent, but all that will come later once in the biz. Just want to get started on the right foot.

I'm interested on the phone/internet sales part of the business.

I first learned of insurance sales somehow i ran across NAA. I've heard all kinds of bad things about that company, but I do know someone that is doing decent with them so im not sure what I should do.

I've done sales for the past 5 years or so from cutco kitchen knives to new and used cars to mortgages and homes.

Ohh and by the way im looking into Life insurance. I plan on buying leads as I assume thatll be the only way i will get business unless whatever place i sign up with provides leads.

Basically I'd like to get some recommendations for an agency to join or IMO, GA ETC... that provide training support ,leads etc

So far I only know about NAA, and efinancial. If you can help I would greatly appreciate it .

You can do better than NAA. Keep reading, searching, and posting. You may be able to find someone in your area on this site who can help.

yeah i've been searching but cant find nothing yet ?

If you are looking to work with leads, be prepared to pay for them. Hopefully you are not looking for "free" leads, as they are worth what you pay for them. In my opinion, you need to get licensed first. Once you are licensed, you can talk to some IMOs, etc... It is really pointless on trying to get hooked up without a license, that is, unless you are going down the MLM path.

Once you are licensed, you will find it a lot easier to be able to open a discussion with other GAs/IMOs, etc...

Back to the leads... There is a financial commitment that will be required in order for your business to get going. How much really depends, but I would estimate that you will need to buy 50-100 leads per month to get some good momentum. Exclusive leads will cost you anywhere between $25-$30 each.

You will be in the hole for a few months as you work your leads and wait to get paid. I only buy exclusive leads for life insurance.

There are lots of ways to approach this business. Lots of marketing angles. I only concentrate on term sales from purchased leads. Some people like to focus on non-med, jet issue term or final expense. Some people don't buy leads and they work in a more traditional sense (warm market, referrals) but in my opinion this is the most time consuming and hardest way to work this business at this point in time. But if you do not have a budget to pay for leads, this may be the best way to start.

No, I'm not looking for free leads. I have worked free leads in the past in other ventures..

Mainly I just want to make sure that I set up with a good legitimate company that will train, support etc. The reason I was looking before i got my license is so that I wouldnt go through all the licensing then come to find out i cant find a decent place, or they end up being boiler rooms or something.

I agree though that without the license not many discussions with mga or imo's
