Where to Find Property Info?

A lot of time, I can find info on a property at zillow.com or realtor.com and sometimes in the county asessor's office...but not always.

Sometimes the owners do not know when it was built, sq. footage, etc. Is there a free site that I can look this up myself?

I'm in California, if that makes any difference.

Wouldn't the county tax assessor's office have that information to use as a basis for the RE taxes?

In CA, try propertyshark: PropertyShark - California Property Records

I use them in NY sometimes. Very accurate but I believe you only get one per day, otherwise you have to pay a monthly subscription

The best tool I have ever found which I use when I am looking at property to purchase is GIS , and I have always found it to be free.

Amazing amount of information searchable by address or by clicking on a parcel on the interactive maps. Lot size, purchase price, dates of purchase, owners names, prior purchase dates and prices, etc. too many featues to list them all. Not all states or all countries in US has it.

Den, I have that page bookmarked but I never can get to see any info that I need on the dwellings...only the property, itself.

Maybe I just haven't figured out how to use it, yet.
