Which Route Should I Go?

Great if the agency is independent, then just build your "side" life practice. Like P&C though, it is not really a part-time job. If you like what life sales offers you, then just stick with that. It seems like there are enough family to keep the PC business going. Best of luck.

Have you talked with your grandfather about this? How about your mom? You're in a family business that you enjoy. You must consider the long term business & family relational ramifications. I would talk with both of them (Grandpa might tell you what he thinks you want to hear, mom might have better insight - or vice versa!)

You see, what's best for you may not be best for the family, both in reality and in possible perception.

Ever heard the expression, don't s*** where you sleep?

Everyone in the agency is a direct ancestor of you besides your brother and aunt. Does she have any children? Otherwise the agency is likely to end up with you and/or your brother.

Get the agency contracted if not otherwise with the life carriers you want to use and put yourself down one level, but paid by the company. The agency then gets a little cut off everything and you can use the CSRs, office space, and supplies without any feelings of guilt. Also, work the book and put the agency down for a commission split on all existing clients.

Eventually your grandfather is going to step down due to retirement or death. Show yourself to be a team player but also a leader and you could be the next person running the agency.

Thank you for all of you comments. I obviously have a lot to think about and consider and learn.

Obviously the family dynamic is more important to me than business.

I will try to drop back by this thread when I come up with some more thoughts or decisions.
