Who Do You SEO With? AreThey Working?

"I have to vouch for Chumps here... He handles SEO for my site and I couldn't be happier... I got in back when he used to only charge $2.34, but $50 is still a bargain... especially if he will throw in a membership to his association. I think I'm ranking somewhere around 1,450,467 for my primary search term...
Thanks again Chumps!"

Josh...I appreciate the plug. There's more good news. I'm going to work on your blog free of charge. I'll drop your visitors count to zero which should give you plenty of extra time to work on other things.

Is this organic listings? A one page auto insurance website ranking organic for relevant traffic terms? I dont believe it. You must be talking about PPC or other means of traffic.
Far from being Search Engine Optimized, This is nothing more than a PPC Campaign.

Not an SEO expert by any means BUT, it doesn't matter how many pages your website is in order for it to get a high ranking and traffic. Keyword density (2%-3% I think) is important, choosing keywords with low PPC competition is also a factor and page rank matters. Also, coding issues on the back end could hurt Google's ability to "read" your site.

That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.

Then if your not an expert, then dont quote stuff you are completely wrong about.

Dont matter if its your story or not, Size of the site and content does matter.

I think I understand SEO, Keyword Density is something that kool-Aid drinkers use, Has no effect anymore.

We are talking about "Organic Search Engine Results" not PPC.

Oh and by the way, PPC matters too. Its called Quality Score. Its not about who pays the most anymore. Those days are gone.

I just got schooled by a master :) I promise not to spread my uninformed crap around anymore.

I would add though, since many web forums espouse the same lessons I did above, and since your results prove that this is incorrect, where would you advise people to find better information?

Thanks Chumps. This is the solution I've been looking for!

This is all very true. Keyword density does not matter like it used to. Back in the day, you could stuff a bunch of keywords in your copy and the guy with the biggest paragraph full of stuffed keywords won. Fortunately, the search engines have gotten a lot smarter...

Although there are some major things onsite that can be done to help with ranking (title tags, h tags, link text, etc.) I believe in writing content for your audience. Not only will it convert better, but in many cases, you will rank better. The search engines like fresh, original, relevant content, and the more the better!

Then if your not an expert, then dont quote stuff you are completely wrong about.

This is all very frustrating. Here on the internet, where everyone is an expert and everyone has a different version of gospel, what should be used as a resource?

I'm not disputing the keyword density thing, I believe you and Dave...I'm just not sure when that happened and how you vetted it. Trial and error? Quality of sources? What?

I'm not hired as an SEO writer (thank goodness), but I'd like to be able to optimize what I write so that it attracts traffic for my clients. Is there any way to do that, or is SEO more of a behind-the-scenes /coding art now?

Just post something web related and include a link to a website. He will be sure to stop by and criticize it.

Just answering the post, About SEO

We contract with a private firm out of PA. They designed our website and we pay a monthly fee to maintain our search engine position. They have positioned our website in the top 1-5 results across all major search engines for all of our search terms. Definitely worth the price they charge as we average 30-50 leads per week from the website.

Not critizing, just pointing out this is a PPC campaign. Not SEO as the individual asked about.

Didnt say a word about the website or be critical, Just said its a one page website,

Feel better now???

Many on this forum get results from my methods I use, they produce results. Not sure where that statement came from.

On Page Optimization is nothing special. The real trick is building authority and relevance for the targeted "Keyword Phrases"

Their is so much bad information on the net in reference to this, its impossible to sort thru the noise. Unless a person has sites ranking for "relevant traffic terms" then its just noise.

Keyword Density was some formula years ago, that people would use to stay under the required filter or whatever. The number of times you use the phrase nowdays is no factor in ranking, unless you keyword stuff, then you will trip a filter.
