Why do companies shut down contracting a quarter before AEP?

I know they can do whatever they want...but why? I can understand a month before AEP, but a quarter? Cmon man!

I was just getting ready to take the UMPC quiz and couldn't access it. Got a response back that they close contracting down in July.

UHC closes contracting in September. The rest of them usually lock it down Oct. 1st.

I just tried to move from my captive ICA contact with UHC to an FMO and they told me no. I have to wait until after AEP. Not going to lie, pretty ticked. Any suggestions Todd?

The ICA side might have different rules, I'm not sure. Or, someone might be mistaken? I would reach out to the ICA contracting team and ask someone about this and why it doesn't follow the independent side.
