...said the owner of the agency when I told him that I was leaving to become truly independent. For every reason he told me that I should stay are the exact reasons I left. 1) Training 2) Supplies 3) Leads. 4) Commradery. Well 1) the training was crap: Read the medicare buyers guide and sit down next to someone who taught me how to sell chargebacks. 2) Supplies: I'll give him that. His copier is really nice. 3) Leads. Anybody can sign up for sales genie! 4) My friends do not pay my bills.

Let me just say that sacrificing my commissions (13% for MOO med supp and 60% for all life insurance) should be paying for something other than a good looking receptionist. How about true training and leads?

Anyways, the reason for this post is to let the few on this forum who know about me, be updated. I wouldnt have learned about the crappy situation I was in if it wasnt for this forum believe it or not.

I only spent two days, since I made my decision, getting prepared for my new, and improved, home office (and getting appointed, phone service, fax, nice chair, etc) and leaving the agency (gathering my important data before it was scavenged!) before I sat down and prospected new business...

...on my first day (away from the agency) I made an FE sale and at nearly double the other commission...well, the power of ONE is true. (and the one commission pays for my office plus a few hundred more!)

ps. many of my co-workers like what I am doing, believe I will succeed and ask how because they want in!

Oh and anyone who agrees with the owner of the agency....I garantee you I will not fail. I am the most motivated I have ever been in since college (who ever woulda thought the senior market would do that to you).

Thanks Forum, Keep educating the newbs. I know I am still a newby learning from this everyday.

You need to tell all the other slaves about this and spread the word. Congrads and I know you like the double commissions that you are making and being your own boss.

If you have the skills, then do your own thing.

Congratulations and don't get discouraged when it becomes a little more difficult when you have to get your own leads and there are no bonuses involved and you don't get your renewals. That's really the only thing I miss: my renewals.

I found the 'training' at a well-known (and respected) company a complete joke. They gave me a bunch of binders and told me to read up on all the products. There were maybe (2) casual training events. None of the newly hired agents understood squat about the products.

The local office had gone through 3 managers in fewer years and the one who 'trained' me was fired for sexual harrassment. His training consisted of making me buy $800 in mortage leads, make all the appointments, and then take him to my appointments so he could make the pitch.

At first I didn't even realize he was misrepresenting the products. When I learned more (on my own), I stopped making calls with him.

There was not a single woman in the office (besides the secretary) who had been there more than a year, and there was not a single woman in management in any office - regional or district. It's a very misogynist profession.

So, more power to you.

A wise decision to become indy.
Just remember the days that seem to be "not as productive", you need to remember this first day (and the other successful days you will have) to pick yourself up and keep moving forward.

As someone stated on this website, if your day is not completely planned you will have more opportunities to do "non-productive" things. So plan, plan, plan your week!!:GEEK:

Your ex-boss is an arse for stating you will fail as:
If you were really a candidate to become a failure, why would he care as you would be of no value to him/her??

Rock on and all the best!!:1cool:

Thanks everyone. Quick update. Week has been great and I love being independent. As far as the agency I left, they have contacted all my clients and are telling them I no longer work for them and someone needs to come out to their house to make sure I had them set up correctly. My phone at the office there also recieved voicemails but not only can I not access them anymore, he is using them for leads. Thats quite a low blow in my books, but it was not unexpected. I contacted all my clients and told them the story, it actually gave me more credibility and some more business!
