They took my agency to small claims court, but I lost because I didn't realize that I couldn't represent the agency since it is an LLC.

They had made some misrepresentations. I might have won the case.

But it was too late to get a lawyer when I learned that I couldn't represent the agency, so I took the hit. I think it was over 10k. That hurt especially since I was just getting the agency going.

Maybe I missed it, but did you sign a contract or was the entire "transaction" verbal?

The whole thing was verbal, the jerk told me it was recorded.

Well, I have not responded to any collection calls because I think that would have inferred admission to them that I own it. My attorney advised turning it over to the State's Attorney General's office, which I will do if I get a demand letter from their attorney. So far, simply avoiding their calls has slowed their collection activity.

I hesitated to post this but I did so to help any others from making the same mistake I did.
