45,000 American deaths associated with lack of insurance

A 51-year-old mother with undiagnosed heart disease; a 26-year-old with unusual fatigue. Neither had health insurance; both died. Newly published research in the American Journal of Public Health estimates that 45,000 deaths per year in the United States are associated with the lack of health insurance. "It means you're at mortal risk," said Dr. David Himmelstein, one of the study's authors.

While that article is no laughing matter and a real issue, they make such a story about the 26 year old with no insurance. Now maybe she couldn't qualify for individual med. and also didn't live in a state with a risk pool. But for an overwhelming majority of people her age with no insurance the decision is by choice not because they couldn't afford it had they found it important. Don't tell me she couldn't come up with $50/mo for a high deductible plan or $100/mo for a more comprehensive plan? Come on, I'm in my 20's and everyone I know without coverage won't give up their bar money to spend on it. Just wish the article took a look at that too. But that wouldn't make it out to be the evil health insurance industry now would it...

You got it.
You can sell "evil," you can't sell responsible.

How many die each year as a result of obesity?

Most of those have insurance and still die.

So what have we proved here?

It is worse to have insurance and still die because you refuse to take care of your body?

Yeah, I have made a friend realized this reality and it gave him the initiative to have a health insurance. It is really a sort of investment for whatever the future may make us encounter. It is better to be well prepared for a battle.

I have all kinds of medical insurance, but I have yet to use up even a fraction of my deductible and I have never taken advantage of any wellness provisions.

So, if I die tomorrow is it because I did not have insurance?

Statistically, if I had no insurance, I would be one of the 45,000 who died "because they had no insurance."

That is the biggest load of BS ever. "Undiagnosed heart disease"? Having insurance would have guaranteed diagnosis, treatment and a cure? I hate the way statistics are used to push whatever agenda someone wants to push.
