Whenever you have a government with a vested interest in a "private" organization, like Fannie was supposed to be, then you have real problems. Problems like conflict of interest, no accountability, no government oversight, lawmakers with a piece of the action.

That is why I ranted in another thread about casinos in which the government gets a big, fat cut of the action. Just the way the Mafia used to skim, but legal. Legal with a vested interest in making sure the casinos do well so the easy income keeps flowing.

Anyway... What I see coming next are things like this: since the government has a vested interest in General Motors, does anyone see the possibility of pressure going down to the states to use GM for their fleet cars? Maybe it would be subtle at first. Maybe just a government-to-government special discount. See where I'm going with this? Once government gets its sticky hands on more than just a cut of the taxes, then things can really go to crap fast.

Do you suppose the Obama people are pulling for GM or Ford when it comes down to what is best for the United States?

The way all that works is that the government uses its influence/ownership to put some green things in GM cars and we all know that green is groovy. Next, the government allows the use of the stimulus/pork program of the month to be used only on cars with certain green things. In other words whatever they just required GM to have. Eventually we will all be driving the car that Nancy Pelosi thinks we should be driving.

Oh, and according to government science when you use the government approved electric car it is green. What the source of the electricity was that charged the car we, dont talk about. Probably a source that they are trying to eliminate.
