ACA Government Co-Ops: Is This Experiment Working In Your State?

Yes, but to be politically correct, it's not a fat lady. It's a gender-neutral, weight impaired person.

Here's what one Co-Op is doing to keep that "person" from singing on its 2016 doorstep. It's Illinois specific, but could apply to any of the Co-Ops that are teetering, yet have the state's backing. (IL is broke and downgraded to slum-junk, but it's giving cheerleading support to LOLH.)

About it being "the last year". Yep. When this started we predicted it would be 3-5 years to the crash, and this is year 3.

Ann, you've disappointed me.

"differently weighted person of non-specified gender"

You can't say "impaired" anymore, and "neutral" implies they are don't have a gender identity.

I too agree it's likely the last year. I'm sure my posts from 2013 have me saying "single payer in 3-5 years", and you may remember my stories of lobbying at the capital and being stunned that the lawmakers supported it almost unanimously. Well, here we are... (79 co-sponsors of the single payer law in my state, after easily passing assembly, doesn't look good. Assembly Bill A5062 if you're curious)

RE: Utah shuts down Arches, Utah's nonprofit insurance co-op | The Salt Lake Tribune

With today's announcement that Utah's Arches Health Plan Co-Op will soon be shutting down,

It's time to update the list..

We started with 23 state Co-ops on January 1, 2014. These have gone belly-up, after just two open enrollments:

1. Vermont - Was squashed based on poor projections.

2. Co-Opportunity Health - Iowa/Nebraska

3. Louisiana Health Cooperative - Louisiana

4. Nevada Health Co-op - Nevada

5. Health Republic Insurance Co-op - New York

6. Kentucky Health Cooperative - Kentucky

7. Community Health Alliance - Tennessee

8. Colorado HealthOP - Colorado

9. Health Republic Insurance - Oregon (1 of 2 in the state)

10. Consumers' Choice Health Plan - South Carolina

11. Arches Health Plan - Utah

Taxpayers have now been exposed to a 48% failure rate for this U.S. Government experiment. The Obama Administration endorsed using our money to test a crazy theory that's failing miserably. These Consumer Oriented and Operated Plans are imploding on a weekly basis, yet Government leaders are saying that it's no big deal. Only "a few million" insureds, patients, medical providers, and employees will be negatively affected. What we're witnessing is an example of what would happen to an underfunded national Single-Payer system.

Only one on exchange carrier left in Utah and only parts of state.

It's the same situation in Wyoming, after WinHealth's departure. The remaining insurer in each state is probably kicking themselves right now for not requesting a larger 2016 premium increase.

What is the difference between a co op and a qhp that is a company you have never heard of and wasn't in the individual market before Aca and is only on exchange....like caresource or mdwise in Indiana?
