Acting Like an Investigator

Lately my lead sources have me feeling like I am a private detective. Lead comes in I pick up the phone and dial the phone number and get Time and Temperature.

I currently have a subscription to emailfinder.com and have used it to verify that the email address included with these leads is really registered to the person requesting the quote because most companies won't credit a lead unless the phone number is bogus and the emails bounce back.

Is anyone else feeling like a PI, I routinly track down other email address and phone numbers and I do sometimes get the sale but I think the vast majority of the time if the original contact info is bogus its because they don't want to talk to an agent.

so Here is my question. Are your leads behaving like mine and do you spend time tracking down other contact info and is it worth your time and what services do you use to do this.

Never heard of the service before. Is it really $1.95/mo for unlimited searches?

I have used whitepages.com to verify names and even do reverse phone look up. I really have mixed emotions on playing Jim Rockford.

If someone doesn't give their real name, real phone or real email, I figure they aren't much of a prospect.

Every lead that comes in from my site is cross-checked. If the phone or email is bogus I purge the lead from my database.

Others may feel differently.

I use something called superpages that allows me to do free searches and if I give it a phone number, it will tell me who it is and where they live.

Mark,

I know exactly what your saying about the person not being a great prospect.... I'm confilected on the 1 hand I don't think they would be a good contact on the other they may not want to be bombarded with sales agents so if I'm the only one calling does that give me a shot?

Finally the service makes you pay annually something like $23 a year....Its already been worth that much to me because my lead vendor will credit if the phone number is bogus AND the email bounces back....I have put in the credit form that even though the email address is a valid address it is registered to so and so and so far they have credited the leads....I just got a time and temp number the other day.

Here is the question the site says enter your information here for an instant quote and we all know they are not getting that quote and the prospects know that the companies are mining the data most of the time people will add a digit to an email address or change 1 digit in the phone number.

So are the lead companies by the virtue of there acts essentially making people not want to give good information?

Thanks Peter, but I am not Mark. Name is Bob. It's a palindrome.

Bob.

or boB.

Either way it reads the same.

I think once burned folks looking for insurance will put in bogus information. That includes data mining sites and my own websites as well.

A high percentage of the folks who come to my site and get a quote put in good information and many of them call or email me. Right now I am making a sale a week off folks who find me online and call or email me. That covers my bar tab most of the time.

Sorry Bob, I was reading Marks post and went back to quote yours....sorry about the confusion....

I have been using email finder.com for a little while as I mentioned they charge 12 months at once it was like $23 but it has come in handy in that you can sometimes get email address based on a persons name and location or do a reverse lookup on an email address you have to see if it really belongs to the person submitting the lead.

No problem, Paul. I get confused too.

Sometimes it is due to age.

Sometimes because it is Miller time . . .

I think I have $23 sitting around somewhere that can be put to good use. Thx for the tip.
