Agent's Role in the Exchanges

I disagree. NAHU is bought and paid for by the large carriers. If it comes down to a choice between the carriers staying in business but without agents OR going out of business NAHU is going to throw us under the bus in a New York minute.

Once again Al speaks the truth...

Page 62 & 63 of the Patient' Protection and Affordable Care Act throw us agents a bone through the Exchanges. It is called the Navigator plan and will be regulated by each state. As the Exchanges are not even formed as of now, heaven only knows what their rules and regulations will be. As insurance agents, anything said now by NAHU or our insurance companies is pure speculation and rumor. Like it or not we will not have facts about our futures until after the Exchanges are formed and grant criteria are established. Whatever the future holds, we will definately have to adjust to a different compensation system.

If you are counting on anyone to "take care of you" from NAHU to the carriers to the FMO's you're going to be greatly disappointed.

If you're looking for any kind of REAL solid information that we're in trouble you'll find out about it....1 day before the change is made. Until then everyone wants you busy writing new business.

Guys... if you have half a brain get into life, annuity, and LTC. Health is a dying duck and is going to be a penny-ante game in 24 months or so.

I'm told that by late 2011 there will be 10,000 people a WEEK turning 65... and they are going to need help figuring out how they are going attain enough income to live the next 25 years... because that's what the actuarial tables predict.

That is what I figured....it seems to many in the health biz would rather fight to the end an not realize the opportunity in other markets. Not you!

This is the big question.

No one knows what is going to happen to us when it comes to the selling the exchanges.

As for plans that operate outside the exchanges they are already being developed.

There will be plans that check Credit scores before you can apply.
There will be partially self funded plans for small group that might work.

Time will tell

IF your state allows you to sell outside the exchange...who is going to want to buy outside the exchange? I thought this was not to be allowed by Maocare.

Here's what will happen. Everyone will flock to the senior market and in a year or two you won't be able to find a senior without 250 postcards on their table and getting 15 calls a day.
