Alonzo Mourning Access to Care Act

I didn't realize this act went into effect in Florida(on October 1st, 2009), until today, when I had a call from a Mutual Of Omaha underwriter questioning the premium I listed for someone turning 65 in Florida and purchasing a Mutual of Omaha med-supp. from me.

The underwriter had a lower premium then I had on the outline-of-coverage. Low and behold MoO reduced rates for 65 year-olds on med-supp business(effective October 1st, 2009), and now offer guarantee issue disability supplements in Florida because of the Alonzo Mourning Access to Care Act....2009June10Legislation to Increase Access to Health Care

Anyone in Florida who is on Medicare disability is guaranteed a disability supplement, with no waiting period, for the next 6 months...from October 1st, 2009 to April 1st, 2010. After April 1st, 2010, disability apps. in Florida will be underwritten.

Mutual of Omaha is offering them at about twice the rate they charge for a T65 person. Commissions are 55% of what you receive on age 65 and older supps.

Now I think I know why Continental Life pulled out of Florida on new Medicare supplement business. They didn't want to be involved in this new act.

Great for kidney transplant patients who can't afford the 20% coinsurance for a transplant and any others who are on disability in the state.

I wonder what AARP will do about this act, with respect to their med-supp. business in Florida?

AARP has new rates for their members ages 50-65 on disability. BCBS, Bankers all have the rates for the new Under 65 disability. MOO is the best pricing by far.

After April any people coming onto Medicare under 65 will have guaranteed enrollment for 6 months. The current 6 month open enrollment is for those already on disability
medicare.
We have been writing these since last week and it is helping a lot of people already.

I haven't received correspondence from any company on this. Nothing from MoO...AARP...

Thanks for the information. Good for those on disability. This is for Florida only?

Yes Florida only to my knowledge.
The new MOO rates are on their web site under forms
AARP will not be sold through agents only thru there 800 number & web site(this is my understanding).
BCBS and Bankers are VERY high obviously they don't want this book of business.
