Alternative Marketing Strategies

I was curious if anyone has any success with marketing strategies other than direct mail response cards and door to door cold calls... bandit signs, etc...

Use the search function on this forum. You will find threads relating to various marketing methods.

Thanks for the tip. Unfortunately, I had already attempted this prior to my post. It may be that I am not adept at defining my search requirements narrowly enough, but the search was not very profitable. I do remember reading that agents had mixed results with traditional types of marketing, radio, print, etc.. I was more interested in guerilla type marketing campaigns that may have caught on...

The marketing model that the top FE agents use is very well defined. Just looking for alternative methods....

if there is a method thats defined by top FE agents, why would you want to look for something alternative? Do you not want to be a top FE agent?

I am not sure if there is another way. However, One thing I have used that works a little bit, is network with other insurance agents that dont mess with this kind of stuff. It helps if their friends. But sit down with a P&C guy, brings your applications that youre going to use, and tell him what you specialize in, and work out a deal. Also captive agents. the Real New York Life, Northwester Mutual, etc. These agents for these companies can only write with them, only have full underwriting products, and are tough underwriting at that. I network with these guys, but their also just friends of mine. We laugh about it, but I always tell them I want their flunkies. I want the clients that have been declined, highly rated, and people you just know you cant write.

Just really make sure their taken care of when you do write a deal. Most of these guys write at 50% FYC of life premium or less. So if you can find a way to compensate them for basically what their used to (hopefully you have atleast a 100% FYC on your FE schedule), their going to be really happy, and they will give you more names.

Many of my agents use telemarketed leads. The company I've been using as of the past 3 months is working out pretty good.

I'll admit you made me smile. I'm sure the question is rhetorical, but somehow I feel a repsonse is warranted. I value the experiance that has been shared in this forum, in particular, the best practices that have so generously been illuminated by top FE agents.

Forgive me for the poor choice of words ...The more accurate conclusion to the above statement would be that I am looking for marketing strategies to suppliment those best practices. I am not looking for alternative methods.

Your experiences (yes I subscribe to the Mark Twain school of spelling) are exactly the kind of thing I was hoping to learn from this post. Thank You

I've tried newspaper ads that have a cut out, fill in the blank (name, age, address, phone) section. This type has been ran in papers an hour away. The first run was always the best, after that it was a waste of money. These ads were no smaller than an 1/8 of a page, some were 1/4 page. I did this in no less than 6 different news papers multiple times.

Ads that I've tried in local paper have included my phone, photo, etc. Wrote a few, nothing to brag about.

Also, I've done newspaper inserts, a waste of money and time.

There's no better way to spend your money than through mail order. I've printed, mailed and done it all, and have had some success, but it's a lot of work. The most beneficial way is direct mail. Let them do the work, spend the time, you pay them for it.

I also bought pre set appointments. I didn't use Pre set appointments enough to say one way or another. The company I used was into Medicare and I ordered FE, which they claimed to make FE appointments, but it was to much of a hassel.

Several years ago I used an appointment setter, using a list, cold calling. The appointment setter was gooooood, but it was hard to keep setters. Seems no one wanted to use their phone for four hours per day at an hourly rate plus a bonus for each sell. The numbers were one appointment for each hour and a half of calling, with closing over 50%

There you have it.

Sorry brother, not just yet. I'm keeping this one close to the vest right now. I will share when the time comes though.

Maybe I should have not posted that to begin with if I wasn't willing to share, huh?
