Yes they do run your credit, but if it's not to bad then they will probably give you a shot.

Is there any credit criteria for potential agents? Mine is not so good but I have no vectors.

Yes, Credit is a factor if you want to be a W2 agent. Basics: No more than $10,000 of debt over 160 past due.
Not including student loans, primary mortgage, or medical bills. If nothing else, apply. what's the worst they can say? NO? You'll get a lot of those in your career, may as well risk the first one now.
