Another Soon to Be Agent.

Life insurance is a great way to start for a newbie and Metlife should be your primary option. Good luck with that

I'd add a couple of questions:

1. Who, precisely, is your target market?

2. Why, precisely, should they buy from you?

.

First off, I don't mean this as a 'personal" attack on RyanCO.

But this type of advice is useless, to a "young, rookie" and more of a slap in the face to common sense and courtesy.

This person's story is very typical of a 'young, hungry salesperson', many of us used to be that kid and obviously many have forgotten what it's like being THAT kid.
(Again, this isn't directed particularly at Ryan but his post is illustrative of some others, as well)

Being a hungry 'new to the field' salesperson means he/she knows "precisely" zhit about their target market or WHY ppl should buy from them......and we all (experienced ppl) know it.

So to ask dumb 'useless' questions like that only
'humiliate' the 'rookie' and make to the 'yoda' feel better about themselves for asking that nonsense.

If a player "enters" this field with a cup in their hand, trying to figure out how to EAT....when THAT player ask a veteran for HELP.

They are asking for guidance and direction......

Veterans do these ppl NO SERVICE by interrogating them on:
What their target market is.......
Who is their primary prospect.........
What do they specialize in...........
What products are you looking to market...........

They don't know any of that crap, that's WHY their seeking HELP.
If they had those answers, they wouldn't be 'green, wet behind the ears-don't-know-zhit-but-would-like-to-make-money...KIDS, now would they.

Have you guys totally forgotten, what it's like to.....just......WANT?
_______________________________________________

When, I was a kid, I wanted to make MONEY....... but if some old fart were to ask me
"which products I wanted to market....the most intelligent answer I could have provided at the time would have been....THE ONE THAT SELLS. ..................(What the hell did I know, I just wanted)

Were, you any different?
Did you guys know "precisely" what you were going to sell to precisely, whom?
And if YOU didn't,
Why in the F do you think any kid would?

They are seeking advice, suggestions, hope...whatever.......

This disconnect is 'precisely' the reason Primerica and others like 'em get a HOLD of these 'newbies" because at least 'they' give them the "guidance and direction" that a 'I don't-know-zhit newbie needs, so when they reach out and ask for help, my friends the solution can't be to ask THEM to clarify themselves.

Especially, when you know damn well they can't.

Patient: "Doc...I'm not sure what to do, but I really want to be healed. I've seen other Dr.'s but they seemed like quacks so I came to you for advice....whad 'ya say?"

Dr. says " Well, How do you want to be healed?,
What do you think will work?
How will you go about healing yourself ?
How long do you think it will take for you to recover?
What type of meds do you think you'll need?

Patient; "Well, doc if I knew that wouldn't I be the Doctor?"

Folks, fresh faced newbies AREN'T doctors........

they are not even the interns....their seeking total direction, not just the last turn or two off the highway.:err:

I understand your point, but I would argue that we're trying to provide advice, constructive criticism, ideas and reality. Granted, it's pretty much impossible to do all that in a single post, but taken as a whole, I think this forum provides great information.

If a newbie comes here for advice and input, it's their responsibility to figure out how to best take advantage of what we're trying to offer. They can play it smart and choose to go through these pages one by one, or they can choose to let one individual post affect them. They're adults.

There's a ton of information and advice in these pages, from how to choose what to sell, who to work for, etc., etc., from one end of the experience spectrum to the other. Great for newbies and old pros. It just takes a bit of effort to find it. And if that's too difficult for some, I'd suggest perhaps this isn't the right industry for them. We'd be doing them a great favor by telling them that.

If I were responsible for a newbie at an office, if they couldn't tell me (a) who their target market was, and (b) what their response would be if a prospect asked them, "why should I work with you?", I wouldn't let them out the door until they could.

We can all do our little bit to help here and there, and I think this is an excellent forum for that.

I know we rib around a lot on this forum and I enjoy :laugh:.

And RyanCo is correct the value of access to the info and ppl on this site are immeasurable.....
and newbies need to take as much advantage as they can.

However, sometimes these ppl are like deer in headlights, they are clearly asking way....
OPEN ended questions that prove your point that they need to take better stock in what they really want to do.

I really think some on these folks really, need a mentor type figure to help 'em.

Unfortunately, not many exist and that's why w/o the proper personal motivation and some luck.....
there will be many bloody noses and needlessly broken homes but with this forum gives a lot more guys a puncher's chance
more than was available when I was younger.

Good Luck, youngsters;)

Primerica and HCO are two very different companies.

Why did you get into insurance?
What products are you looking to market?
What type of marketing are you doing?

Hi, I was wondering if you could tell me how long after the State Life Ins Exam will you know if you passed or failed.. could you tell me?

Pretty much the same. When I took it in SC and MI I knew as soon as I walked out of the testing room to the Proctor.
