I don't know if this will help at all but I thought I would share a couple of thoughts from the standpoint of a newb.
First off, let me say that the amount of usable information regarding the Insurance and Financial Services is little and none. Add to this the DIS-information handed around by many companies and it only gets worse. For myself, I have really had a gut-full of the "make big money--fast"-touts, almost as much as the "you can really help people"-lines. One of the first benefits I found to coming here was that the information here seemed far more grounded in reality and experience. That said, the farther we can move from generalities and closer we can move towards specifics, the better I like it.
Secondly, let me say that there is typically a "hidden" agenda on the part of the companies we work for, or at least the immediate managing teams. For all of the talk about wanting the newbs best chance at success, the fact is that managers are doing whats in their own best interests. Therefore, if its a toss-up between the newb's and the manager's best interests the manager is going to win every time. At least we don't have to play with those games here.
Thirdly, while I appreciate the more general information, I have found that the info I listen to most carefully are sentences that start out with either "what I do...." or "what seems to work for me is...."
Lastly, something I have noticed-by-its-absence is the general lack of information on how to deal with the managers of a given location. Many times I suspect that there is a big difference between what the Company expects and that which the Managers do and attribute to Company policy. I would really like to hear more about how veteran Captives have come to deal with this. Anyone?
Just my 2 cents......no real point....
Best Wishes,
Bruce
