Better... (not really). But who cares.
I have been around long enuf that the statement made was correct, about Time Ins. Time had the worst rep for u/w at the time of a claim; really bad. Oh yes, this was early 80's, and they did essentially no u/w at the application (facetious) and if and when a claim was filed, they were looking for the exits... If they didn't have to pay, they wouldn't.
So maybe it was just and old article that the OP read...
I have a man that has Assurant short-term with me. He went to the ER twice within 2-3 weeks. I checked with the hospital to verify he had given them the correct information. The nice-sounding lady in patient accounts gave me a lowdown on Assurant and how they will APS doctors and drag their feet in paying claims. The man was in excellent health when I wrote him and I have no doubt they'll pay based on what he went to the ER and had diagnosed....arthritis...they gave him a steroid shot. He told me he's never had that condition before. Looks like a claim that may take a while
