Apple pencil version 1 or 2. Is there a big difference?

Is there a big difference in the 2 apple pencils? I read the version 2 doesn't have a cap you can lose to charge it.

1 you have to plug it in the charge port of the iPad. It's kinda awkward and I'm afraid to break it while it's charging. The 2 has a magnetic charge on top of the iPad I think, but my iPad Pro is a 2 year old model, so I don't think it works. Yes, I worry about losing the cap.
(After reading more, it says the 2 charges wirelessly and can be double tapped to change tools)
