Arcadian Health Plan is entering the CA Medicare HMO market in 3 counties, Santa Barbara, Tulare and Shasta.

I've been asked to help with their agent recruitment in these areas. Looks like they have a very good plan and I'll be spending some of my 6 week effort in marketing it.

So, please email insure(at)greensky(dot)com and I'll send information on their meetings happening next week. Meetings are in Redding, San Luis Obispo, Santa Maria and Tulare (not in that order).

But just as important, I'd like feedback from agents who have sold their plans in 2009. I know they have been in several other states and wonder what to expect from them.

AHP is an interesting company that pushes the HMO model very heavy. They are insistent upon referrals and keeping people within their network and use that as a way of containing cost and keeping their benefits rich. That is also helping them be in a good position to survive the reimbursement cuts that are coming. Over the last 9 months their upper management has been restructured and just a few months after they named a new CEO, the founder and I believe majority shareholder of the company passed away in a plane accident.
Generally speaking, Arcadian tries to take good care of their brokers and clients by having local offices, but the provider networks aren't always great and they can be slow at paying commissions. One nice thing about the company is that they usually provide the leads they get from their corporate marketing campaigns to the agents that rep their product and invite them to sales seminars. I don't know many carriers that will help out agents that way.
On the more ugly side of the company, in one of their expansions markets last year they failed to appoint any of their agents until almost the end of OEP. Some of the agents who wrote business for 1/1 and 2/1 effectives were still waiting to get paid on it as recently as a month ago because Arcadian had not processed the appointments until well after the applications were submitted. It's worth mentioning that the agents had completed the certification test and sent in all the appropriate contracting, Arcadian just waited 3-4 months to process it.
Something else worth noting is that Arcadian has directly subsidized the cost of telemarketed Medicare supplement leads for FMO's in some markets, so maybe you should ask if they'll do that for you.
Does that help answer your question? PM or e-mail me if you have any other questions.

I only wrote seven policies for them in NC, but had no complaints from any of those clients and was given a referral last week by one. I found their local offices to be very helpful and I was paid in a timely manner

I repped for them for the '07-'08 season in GA and have no complaints except they seemed to lose many providers. My first HMO so don't know if that is par for the course.

I got my contract thru Aspect mgmnt/SC who will not release and renewals were paid to them by Arcadian. Since I did not credential again for '08-'09 season I did not get any. I had also signed a Care Improvement contract same year and even though i never produced, 2 years later they will not release me either. They are downline from Cutler organization.

I understand both companies this year will pay renewals direct to agent. Either way, I have to send out a certified letter and probably wait out 90 days before I could produce for CIP....unsure about Arcadian. Read those contracts. Arcadian is a small network so they may be willing to help the agents more than others. I noticed they are expanding.

Appreciate the responses and especially wish to publicly than Josh for spending so much time on the phone today discussing Arcadian.
