I noticed that Assurity will take someone with COPD/Emphysema on level plan if they don't use oxygen. Has anyone placed anyone like this yet? I have been using Monumental for my COPD folks so they can get level standard, but Assurity has better rates.

Yes, they will do it. Equitable will also take non-smokers with COPD that do not use oxygen. I'd start with Assurity and you can always fall back to Equitable.

Another cool thing about Assurity which you may or may not know already is that their underwriters are generally really friendly and easy to get ahold of. I've called them with all sorts of questions and I've always had a good experience. Didn't always get the answer I wanted, but I got the answers.

Personally, I always liked dealing with Assurity. Assurity just wasnt always the best option in every situation. Do they still have that deal where they will give you an underwriting decision within 5 days, or they will pay you 100.00?

I don't recall the timeline or the dollar amount, but I believe they do still do that. They may not always have the best rates, but they have simplified products, underwritten products, and some other neat stuff.

Correct me if I'm wrong -- Assurity only takes NON-smokers, who have COPD/Emph, that does NOT take oxygen, correct?

If they smoke? I believe it's rated or declined?

I did one app with Assurity; took 47 minutes, and the underwriter grilled the shiznit out of my prospect.

They ask about that stubbed toe 3 years ago? That is the big knock against Assurity, their interviewers forgot that this is simplified issue. They swear it is going to get better.

Correct, non-smokers only with no oxygen.

I once talked to an underwriter at Assurity about this and she told me that the application is simplified but due to a possible script check or interview question it may fall somewhere between simplified and fully underwritten. I did not know how to respond so all I said was ohhhhkay.

Correct, non-smokers only with no oxygen.

I had a COPD/No Oxygen prospect diagnosed somewhere around 15 months prior get approved level and he was a smoker, and I even heard heard him tell the interviewer that he was a smoker. It did take almost 2 weeks to get an approval but it did. One last thing was while he was diagnosed, and was prescribed something, I never knew what but he never had a script filled for the COPD. Maybe that made a difference.

I know you've brought this up before. Someone slipped up, guidelines clearly state smokers are a decline if they have COPD, chronic bronchitis or emphysema. It happened once but I wouldn't want people thinking they had very good odds of it happening again. I guess the worst they could say is no though.
