ATT Cancels Retiree Health Plan

Has anyone run up against the retiree being Medicare eligible, but the spouse (who is currently covered under the retiree plan) is under 65? How are they handling that one? Read through the thread and the FAQ's, but the only thing referring to spouses under age 65 is when the retiree dies. And it sends them to the ATT Hewitt site.

Thanks!

AT&T keeps employee or spouse under 65 on existing AT&T Medical until they turn 65. They are only moving those on Medicare to AON/Hewitt.

Looks like PepsiCo is doing the same thing. Just talked with a retiree from Tropicana (later bought by PepsiCo) that got a notice his health plan is going away. Has a conference next month with Towers to review benefits on OneExchange.

He is 85 years old and totally confused. PepsiCo is giving them money to buy their own plan. He couldn't remember how much or what it was for.

Talked with a couple yesterday, retired ATT, pi$ about the change. They already knew they could buy Rx only and get the HRA $$.

----------

Google, I talked with an Alcoa retiree today. She is under the impression the HRA is one time, lump sum.

Correct or not?

One Exchange adviser told me it was a lump sum of 650.00 deposited in January but i didn't ask and he didn't say whether it was 1 time or ongoing.

I assumed it was ongoing but now I know to clarify this question next time I have to call One Exchange

If they go to an outside agent, they will have to file claims to get their premium reimbursement. I sell for AHRE. We do a good job for the retirees, most appreciate the hard work and dedication we put in for them.

Is AARP's Plan N a guarantee issue? I've had a couple from ATT contact me and I showed them Plan F and N they liked Plan N.

Thanks in advance

Because AT&T is terminating their existing Medical Plan effective 1/1/2015, all medicare eligible retirees are being transitioned to a private AON exchange in Gurantee Issue mode. All Medigap Plans for each carrier are Gurantee Issue moves. Not all plans are available in specific carriers. Most common plans chosen are F, G, and N. Their are only 5 or so carriers with Plan F High Deductible. All cariers have regular Plan F. Some are missing G or N.

Most of the employer stipends for retirees i have seen have between 100.00 to 150.00 per month and that can easily be used up in PDP premium ,co pays and plan N deductible and co pays - The co pay and deductible claims would still have to be manually submitted to the exchange for reimbursement even if plan was purchased through exchange.

I am sure there are some good agents with your exchange but these retirees are being short changed by effectively being forced to purchase individual medicare health plan policies from an agent ( usually a very green and clues less agent when it comes to the local landscape of the competing MA plans) who will have no incentive to offer service after the sale.If the retirees fully understood that the cost of an agents expertise and service is already built in to the premium of the plan whether they buy from a local agent who has a vested interest in making sure they are happy the day they buy and for many years after the purchase or if they purchase the insurance over the phone with an agent that really doesn't care if they remain happy enough with the purchase to renew the policy to the next month then many more retirees I am sure would purchase their plan from a local to get their moneys worth of coverage AND service for the premiums they are spending.

I enrolled 2 couples this morning who's employer the Ansheuser Bush dumped them on to One Exchange and they were thanking me profusely for helping them understand their options and coverage especially given that at age 68 this was the first time they ever had to shop for health insurance and also for they said and i quote " for not having to deal with One Exchange mess anymore" i have appointments with 10 more AB retirees in the next 2 weeks because word has got out among the local AB plant retiree community that they can use local agents for clarity about plan options and use One Exchange as the piggy bank to help pay for the plan the choose
