My agency was stuck with progressive for a while until i got a new company couple months ago named assurance america. The funny thing with this company is that it gives the option to sell insurance without bodily injury liability. If my memory serves right in florida the minimum coverage is 10/20/10 and pip, is it legal to provide insurance without bodily injury liability in florida?

Not sure about FL, but what if the car is stored somewhere? You may want comp coverage but legally you don't need BI (you may still want it).

There are also those rare cases where people have blanket BI from somewhere and just need to add Comp/Collision to the car. I don't see much of it, but it does happen.

thanks for the advise, i always give at least 10/20/10 but i get some cheap clients sometimes that want to pay nothing more than pip/pd.

In AZ we have the Comp only option, called Storage, mainly for the snow birds who leave their cars here for the summer when they go back home...

Use it all the time.

Just Comp coverage, nothing else.

Not ALL companies will do this.

If I recall (from my Allstate days) I think that in FL you don't need BI as long as you have the PIP. Just most companies won't allow you to do it without BI at a certain limit.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong? I never liked working for Florida...

bill this is pretty basic.. You answered your own question. Pip/pd is the minimum.

Also id quote much higher limits than that and explain why they need it. If theydont want them let them walk. Unless your shooting for a non standard agency this client base is a pita.

PIP/PD only is allowed in Florida. The hardcore High Risk companies are the only one's that offer it. Assurance America is hard core. Peach Tree is another that focuses on PIP/PD only. I would always offer the BI and avoid PIP/PD only.

Thanks Gulliver! I'm glad to know I wasn't losing my mind.

And infoe, too! Sorry, I read this from the bottom, up!

bill to answer your question, a consumer is allowed to carry pip/pd only. however, at the time of an accident they are required to have minimum limits (10/20/10). If they are involved in an accident with pip/pd only they are required to carry an Sr 22 filing. Getting involved in this kind of business is usually a waste of time, and not profitable. By the way, you should know this from your 1st insurance courses. This is basic information.

Also, you'll be out of business sooner than later if thats the kind of policies you write. Better have good E & O coverage too.

PIP and PD only coverages are mostly sold by FedUsa or one those shops located inside shopping centers. As others mentioned, if you are looking to build a preferred BOB, it is highly recommend to avoid these types of buyers for many reasons.

Wish you the best.
