Back Link Trades

Yes, Google gets smarter and smarter. Be VERY careful accumulating backlinks that aren't done in a legitimate way. If you are in doubt, then DON'T do it.

And what would that be...can you expand on this......

I would love to expand...

1. Excessive reciprocal linking between sites can hurt your Google ranking.

2. Triangle linking can hurt your site. A=>B=>C=>A (this is different than a "link wheel" that can be harder for Google to track and penalize).

3. Having your link on a page that accepts links without reviewing them at all. This means you will have a link to your site amongst a bunch of spammy links. Google may then think of your link as spammy.

4. Linking to sites with "dirty" content... if you know what I mean.

5. Having your website linked to from a bunch of low-quality, poorly-designed sites.

So what do you want in backlinks?

  • One-way links to your site from high-quality sites

Google can sniff out many schemes to get tons of backlinks fast, and thus, can penalize you rather harshly. So, I'm just saying, "Be careful!"

Curious what you think about this situation because I see it all of the time.

PR6 Directory with about 1000 sites listed. Waiting list of about 2000. Worth submitting or skip it?

Looks like it might be worth it. Are you able to see the other links on the directory?

Yeah, that would be fine to post a link on. With 40,000 pending links, who knows if your link will ever get accepted, but it doesn't hurt to go ahead and submit.

And all this will accomplish what?

Concern yourself with Vertical Directories that have a purpose and a reason, all the rest is just Kool - Aid.

DMiller, could you expand on that? What qualifies as "Kool Aid"? Are you saying that having your link on a PR6 directory isn't going to accomplish anything for your site?
