BCBS Commission Schedule With an Effective Date on or After Janua

Re: BCBS Commission Schedule With an Effective Date on or After J

I keep hearing that there will be no changes in BX FL comp. Certainly they have not released any changes. I find it hard to believe they'll still be advancing 12 months at 20%.

They are going to a per enrollee flat commission schedule with 3 Tiers. Details will have to come from the contracted General Agent, everyone is on a different comp plan. It will be difficult to compare the old schedule to the new one but I did a comparison for my enrollees over the past two months and it represents a 28% reduction in commissions for me.

Re: BCBS Commission Schedule With an Effective Date on or After J

I'm new here. Just found this site today and I have a little confusion.

I'm an agent in Texas. Been doing it 10 years now. I had not even been given the specifics of the new commission schedule until i read an email last thursday. At the bottom in, seemed a littled tucked away, it said the new rates would be 8%.

So I'm thinking, ok, everything has been promised that old business would remain at the old rates. So I will start pushing senior care much harder to make up for the new stuff I sell.

But, yesterday a client comes in with a Credible Coverage sheet. Saying her policy ends 1/1/2011. I looked online and it says her new policy starts 1/1/2011. What? We did not make any changes.

I called BCBS and they said that according to the health care law all existing policies must be compliant. So they are now turning all the old existing policies into the new compliant ones.

If I am correct, this means every bit of my business will be at 8% commission since they are forcing the new policies on them without anybody having a say in the matter.

Am I reading this wrong? Does anybody know the specifics? As you can imagine, nobody from BCBS is returning phone calls.

By the way, can somebody explain why anybody voted for the socialist in chief?

I have the same thoughts and I do have a paper trail that they would pay us for business "sold" and effective in 2010 would keep the old commis rates..... keep me posted if you see different than full commish... i have an email from jennifer turpin stating we will get our normal 2010 first year.... if they dont u have a decision to make... sue or tuck your tail between leg... what will you do... i know what i will do...

BCBSTX/NM/OK/IL etc. is undoubtedly one of the most underhanded, agent-hated companies in the business.

In case you haven't guessed it, they can kiss my Royal Flush A**.

Re: BCBS Commission Schedule With an Effective Date on or After J

BCBS-Tx is ONLY issuing NEW policies (effective 1/1/11) for policyholders with effective dates of 3/23/10 (or after).

There SEEMS to be a DIFFERENCE between those issued BEFORE 9/23/10 & those issued AFTER 9/23/10.

No one at HSCIL can explain it well. They all explain it differently (dancing around the real answers/facts).

They were kind enough to issue NO communication about this to AGENTS. They are leaving us in-the-dark more & more. I'm still trying to get a "memo" with the answers; but I'm not holding my breath.

It seems that SOME of the policies issued in 2010 got this flyer in the mail (with their NEW policies that were recently issued for 1/1/11):
www dot
bcbstx.com/producer/pdf/hcr_notice.pdf

Others didn't get it. (Maybe those who had effective dates BEFORE 9/23/10. Maybe they don't get everything listed in the flyer, like the NEW preventive-care benefits.)

I'm still trying to figure it all out.

By the way, they are giving policyholders a 6-month rate guarantee (right now). Policies with an effective date of July 1st are getting rate increases effective Jan 1st. I have not checked them ALL (and never WILL get that far); but it seems that the increases are 9% to 10% (so far) after 6 months of coverage.
I guess they'll get another increase in 6 months, too. Who knows? Who knows WHAT to tell the clients these days? We're just their trusted (uninformed) agents who cannot properly service their accounts. Some have tried to call Customer Service & often give up after long waits "on hold".

" By the way, can somebody explain why anybody voted for the socialist in chief? "

About 50% of US citizens don't pay taxes & have their hands out for all of the free ObamaBenefits they can get.

The Cheerleader-in-Chief mesmerized many of the young people in our country.
"Yes, we can!"
They CAN waive goodbye to a free country if they don't wake up.

Update:

This MIGHT help us to figure out the puzzle.
(Doesn't answer the commission ?'s)
(Just addresses the "new policy eff Jan 1st" issue)

I personally own an OLD BCBS-Tx policy (purchased years ago).

I did NOT get a NEW policy in the mail (effective 1/1/11). And, I won't. My policy is, indeed, "grandfathered". My benefits will NOT change on Jan 1st. (ie: No "free" preventive care; I still have $5 million in lifetime covg)

I just looked online at a policy issued effective 3/15/2010.
They did NOT get a NEW policy (eff 1/1/11).
They're scheduled for a 9% rate increase on March 15, 2011.
This will be their FIRST rate increase.

Next:
A policy issued effective 3/26/10.
A NEW policy was issued effective 12/26/10.
(They did NOT ask for/expect a NEW policy.)
Got a 12.9% increase eff 12/26/10.

Next:
A policy issued eff 7/1/10
NEW policy has been issued eff 1/1/11.
Got a 10% rate increase eff 1/1/11.

Next:
A policy issued eff 8/1/10
NEW policy has been issued eff 1/1/11
Scheduled for a rate increase on 2/1/11 of 14.6%

Next:
A policy issued eff 10/1/10
NO NEW policy has been issued.
There are NO scheduled rate increases in this account (to date).

Go figure?

Pls move this to another thread if you just don't like where I've placed it.
I don't visit this forum often enough to know HOW to do that.
Just trying to solve a number of issues (in 1 place).

Re: BCBS Commission Schedule With an Effective Date on or After J

TXOnline: I was told the same thing you mentioned in the first paragraph. But I have 2 clients with policies, 1 from 2005 and 1 from 2007 that have been changed without their knowledge. So it doesn't look like they are sticking with the 3/10 or 9/10 rule. But nobody will freaking answer a phone or return a call to explain this. It doesn't look good from that stand point. If you have any ideas for policies that are comparable price wise, give me a clue. Nothing I have found is even close to a the price range that BC/BS is throwing out there. And if so many are having a hard time paying their premiums, they sure can't afford the others I have seen.

Re: BCBS Commission Schedule With an Effective Date on or After J

Try Humana with limited Dr Visit CoPays.

They are next-best price in MOST areas of Texas. Humana seems to have LOWERED their prices effective Jan 1st (based on my recent observations).

When I ask clients how many times they visited a Dr last year, they'll OFTEN say 2-3 times (per person). And, ONE of those visits was a wellness check-up.

Humana's 70% CoPay Plan with 3 Dr CoPays/year (per person) is selling very WELL right now. Yes, the out-of-pocket is HIGH (for a worst-case claim). And, I always point that out. But, they see those 3 CoPays & forget about that $5000 Co-Insurance & grab it.

My last quote today...$5000 Deductible:
$254 - BC Saver with NO Dr CoPays
$297 - Humana 70% - 3 Dr CoPays/yr/each
$360 - Humana 80% - 6 Dr CoPays/yr/each
$374 - BC Choice - unlimited CoPays - $25

My last sale today....$5000 Deductible:
$218 - BC Saver - NO CoPays
$232 - Humana 70% - 3 CoPays......SOLD
$254 - Celtic Preferred 80% - 2 CoPays-$15
$283 - Humana 80% - 6 CoPays
$296 - CignaValue70% - Unlim CoPays
$302 - CelticPreferred-100% - 2 CoPays-$15
$314 - UHC-70% - Unlim CoPays-$35
$319 - Humana-80%- Unlim CoPays
$321 - BC Choice-80% - Unlim CoPays-$25
$323 - Aetna Value - Limited CoPays
$329 - Cigna-80% - Unlim CoPays
$360 - Aetna - Unlimited CoPays

These are the ones I wrote down.
I don't sell ALL plans...like UHC's Saver stuff!!!
I wouldn't insure my dog with a UHC "Saver" plan.
I also ignore CoreMed with all of those EXTRA Facility Fees involved.
If you don't point out all of that extra Facility Fee stuff with Assurant CoreMed, they have GREAT prices in MANY areas of Texas.
(I do point it out....so that's not in my presentations.)
I rarely sell Assurant. Too many choices (& complicated explanations & covg limits involved).

Selling the 12-month rate GUARANTEES might help them look past BC.
Telling them about a recent experience might help, too. Customer Service is arrogant (if you have all day to wait for the priviledge of talking to them).

Some clients buy what I recommend regardless of a little-higher price. Others are pinching every penny in their pocket as we speak. Others MUST have those sacred unlimited Dr CoPays....even when it costs them an extra $100/month ($1200/yr)....and they rarely visit a Dr.
