Every law has an "unintended" consequence. This one will result in more unwanted or unwarranted babies. What do you think a 18 yr old female will do knowing she has maternity coverage? How about that young male who knows it will now be paid for? Sell your condom stocks.

You seriously overestimate the thought 18 year olds give their actions. How many 18 year olds have insurance, that wasn't bought by their parents?

And if the 18 year old is on their parents plan, does the maternity mandate cover dependents as well? I would think so since kids can stay on their parents plan now for a long time. SO, potentially you could have 2 (mom, daughters) on more on a plan that could get pregnant at the same time! But alas I am thinking of a families in Tennesee, or here in Georgia, not sure about California!
