I'll chime in on this.
For full disclosure, I use a professional appointment setter to set my appointments, but have plenty of cold calling and appointment-setting experience.
I think the norm here is that it has become exceedingly tougher over time to get people on the phone.
In order to combat this, you need to dedicate making calls to people at different times of the day. AM, lunch, mid-afternoon, evening, all repetitively until thy answer.
A large bunch will never answer. This varies from week to week. I've had weeks where we can get 80 percent of the leads on the phone, followed by weeks where we couldn't get 20 percent of them to pick up.
Truth is, for the vast majority of you out there, you *must* both phone for appointments and doorknock to optimize your efforts.
The only way around this for most is to order a larger supply of leads to telephone appointments from.
I think a good weekly appointment setting to lead ratio is somewhere around 4 or 5 out of 10.
