Can You Believe the Nerve of Sebelius?

Excerpt from: Health chief says reform bill will expand care - BusinessWeek Monday September 28, 2010

""Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius blasted health insurance companies for denying coverage to the nation's neediest patients. She said the health care law will foster a competitive market that forces companies to provide affordable and thorough coverage or lose customers.
"No longer do insurance companies in the United States get to pick and choose who gets coverage," Sebelius told a crowd of Democratic supporters in Henderson. "Insurance companies have to actually cover people when they get sick."
The visit was part of a nationwide tour to promote the legislation during a critical midterm election in which Republicans have made opposition to the law a driving issue.""

How does forcing ANY company to spend more money without allowing them to increase revenues, "...FOSTER A COMPETITIVE MARKET THAT FORCES COMPANIES TO PROVIDE AFFORDABLE AND THOROUGH COVERAGE, OR LOSE CUSTOMERS" ???

I know this lady's ignorance of how business works is old news on this forum, but her statements this past Monday leads me to think that she's becoming obsessed with hurting health insurance companies. I hope Sebelius's health insurance contains the latest mental health screening mandates. This lady will blow a gasket when she finally understands that health insurers will leave the business rather than lose money under a dictatorship.

It think the lose customers part comes from her threats to bar companies that get on her bad side from the exchanges in 2014....Question since these exchanges will be run on the state level what can the Feds do other than say if you allow so and so into the exchange we will cut your funding.

I don't think the carriers really want to play in the Exchange any way. When you look at the Gestapo tactics used on MAP's in the Medicare market I think the carriers are saying enough is enough.

Right now they are playing nice, but if the complexion of Congress changes in a few weeks, I think the carriers will sing a different tune and buck up against Obummer and Shebullshits.

And yes, Peter, the feds have no direct authority over carriers at this point. Even Obamacrap mandates are being handled without the legal authority to impose since insurance is regulated at the state level.
