What does he specialize in?
I have a P&C license, but only because it was required for my day job. Before, I hear about "you can't sell P&C part time, et al...I am just looking for a way to capitalize on having this designation to potentially get my feet wet and learn the business and make some extra income during nights and weekends. If you were doing it part time...what would be the best way to do it with no experience? and what steps to take?
I sell supplemental insurance for growers thru crop insurance agencies. I have iMac at home office and iPhone, scanner/copier/fax machine. Not sure what other technology I would need to get.Out of curiousity, what is your regular job? I think it is possible if you have the right situation. I do agree with Bertolinoins that the servicing of accounts will be the issue, but with the right technology and "job situation" I can see it being a possibilty. Tell us more....

correct, i would be able to return calls/emails/texts as needed from the road as I work in a outside sales role. working under my buddies agency i would think most of that service work could be handled by them, right? So you have the ability to respond to requests and do some service work from the road when you have time at your day job? I would say as long as you are very organized and "train" clients to contact you a certain way (email, text, cell, etc) then I can see it working. At least until you get a sizable book established...p&c can bring on a lot of service work.
For sure, you don't want them to hear the heavy equipment in the background.

thanks captive guy for your input, interesting in that I have a very good friend that is a GM for a Chevy dealership. What would be a good approach to take with him, specific questions to ask him?
That would be the idea, to transition into it full time in say maybe 5 years from now and run another branch for my buddy here in town.I honestly believe in unconventional thinking given you have the drive to make it work. With the proper help from the agency staff you would simply be like a producer.
I do think if you grow a sizable book you may have to adjust the way you do things but for starters why not give it a go?
