He found out the plans exclude illness or injury on a golf course so he passed.

I don't know if Ted Cruz ever got his plan or not.

Yeah I don't see White House boasting about how many politicians actually signed up for themselves and
Opted out of their Blue Cross.
That's because hardly any of them did.

Price is based on cost and demand in an efficient market.

Actually, the theoretical price and price equilibrium is at the intersection of the price curve and the demand curve. Price changes result in changed in quantity demanded when you are referring to the demand curve and changed in quantity supplied when talking about a supply curve.

"Efficient markets" are supposed to have all of the information priced and result in an intersection of the 2 curves and regulate both production and consumption. Health care is not efficient. You can't even walk into a hospital with your checkbook and buy an x-ray. Additionally. healthcare is relatively price inelastic. If you need it, you will buy if you have the ability. You will not say for example that "cancer treatment is too expensive & I think I'll just die and save the money". Besides, people look at what something is going to cost them which is the OOP, deductible or perhaps copay. They do not look at procedure cost or price shop.

Huston, we have a problem. Actually, we have a cluster ****. Gotta stay healthy & ride the STM this year. We'll see what next year brings. That strategy won't work then. Gotta stay healthy!!!

Gotta stay healthy!!!

When you figure that out go find a way to sell it.

You sound like those folks that don't buy health insurance because they don't need it. They are perfectly healthy so why waste money on something they won't use?

I got tired of dealing with stupid people a long time ago. Now I dismiss them and leave them with this.

Do you know why they are called accidents?

Because no one plans them.

Actually, most of my friends put effort into staying healthy. We bike ride, go to the gym, swim and eat well. I define "eating well" as all whole foods, many raw plants and nothing out of a box or can. The current age range is mid 50s to 76. The oldest celebrates his birthday by leading a ride that is however many miles he is old. He dedicated the 1st 74 miles of a 100 mi day to his birthday 2 years ago. None are particularly poor, uneducated or stooopid. Even the most out of shape in the group can ride 40 mi usually without stopping.

Sometimes we get sick but have recovered well. The vast majority of my family's claims last year were and have been for years mostly for the wellness visits which we of course didn't pay out of pocket. Total claims last year were ~$1,200 and premiums were ~12,000.

I understand how rates are composed and have opted to go STM this year because individual underwriting on individual medical goes back forever and I can pass underwriting on the 11 month STM. The 1st month is covered by an ACA plan. The other family members will go with an underwritten HDPH HSA eligible contract. There is an initial $12,000 to $15,000 premium savings at 2017 rates. The premium has become significant enough that I'm bailing at least for this year. Next year will be new rates and new rules. We'll deal with next year next year. I understand the contracts and risks and am willing to fund whatever claims are incurred outside of the contracts. I can write a check and won't be sucking off of the system.

Accidents and most other events are covered.

No carrier is paying any commission on any individual business in TN and premiums have gone through the roof. I have reached the point where I conclude that premiums aren't worth what they buy and have opted to keep as much of my money as possible. This year I had to jump through the most hoops that I recall ever having to go through.

I called the local FB agent in case she could make a little something. She was an *** so I enrolled online without her. I'm hoping she doesn't get paid.

You probably don't want to hear about a guy that was run over while biking about 2 years ago. Still under a doctor's care.

I believe he was a healthy eater as well.

Driver sentenced to 15 years in hit-and-run with Atlanta cyclist

Unfortunately, I hear about it frequently and have to make a judgement call between taking a chance on riding with it's benefits and or not riding with its benefits and risks. The driver frequently isn't even cited for a traffic violation.

A family of 3 was riding on Mt Eagle. An old lady ran over the father and had no legal repercussions at all. She simply said "I didn't see them. The sun was in my eyes." The DA didn't even indict but likely would have had she run into the back of a car.

We (I) don't consider the risks lightly. You have to live your life. Bike riding rules: Rubber side down. Don't bounce off of a car. A bike accident would be covered under STM and the Supp Acc.

Doesn't have to be organized OR competitive. There are certain activities not covered.
