Considering Insurance Part Time?

Just a little background, I am currently in medical sales, but have a mature territory that only requires 2-3 days per week to maintain. Those days are usually spent on the road, so phone time would not be an issue.

Would any of you consider 2-3 days per week too little to get started in the industry if I am just looking for supplemental income?

Thanks in advance for your help.

it is ok to do it part time. depending on what kind of insurance you want to sell, life?. you can go on line to get license training. check with america's professor. check with your DOI to find out what they require. read this forum, and you will get a taste of different insurance products, you may want to talk with , josh, mark, or todd, they are small imo's that will take the time to talk with a newbie. to find out who they are, read through the senior and life sections. welcome to the forum, and thanks for your service. good luck.

You can sell supplemental health part time, to businesses. Just pop in a business every now and then- ask what kind of benefits they have. You could do this with normal life products as well, and health for that matter. And ask a friend or two who they have life insurance with, stuff like this. Part time is not bad, I've done it. I tend to get motivated better if I'm full time, though.

Thanks for the replies.

I think life and medsupps would be the easiest to do without investing 40+ hours/wk, although 20 or so would not be a problem. Does this seem like a reasonable plan?

Yeah, but I meant supplemental, not med supps. Like accident and cancer and so on. Now, the med supps, yeah, you could do that part time as well. Seniors are home in the day and mornings. Not so much evenings, but some evening sales. Weekends might work well for med supps.

I think the Med Supp market and cross selling Final Expense to new Med Supp clients would suit you perfectly. In essence you are the underwriter so you don't have to hassle trying to get an app approved.

There is no service work associated with Med Supps, claims are handled automatically. They are typically a one call close with means you don't have to send proposals and constantly have the prospect change their mind.

All Med Supps are standardized which means they must be identical from company to company and virtually from state to state. Once you learn them there is nothing more you need to know. The prospect either qualifies or they don't.

It's a challenging enough doing it full-time. How can it be easier and more productive dabbling in it part-time?

Answer: It can't.

I agree. However, most of the captive organizations I've been with through the years, they had a lot of full time people who were not putting the effort in, and basically they were working part time hours. I'd say the 80/20 rule was going strong, that 20% of the folks wrote 80% of the business.
