Intitially in your career you will likely earn a part-time paycheck even when putting in a full-time effort. At least for the first few months. I've watched as agents transition over from another career (such as real estate) and attempt to work 50% in old career and 50% in insurance and the results are always a failure in both.
My opinion - one cannot "try out" casually to see if this career is the right one for you. You must give it your all, 100% full effort to see if you are cut out for the daily and weekly activities needed to achieve success. A part-time effort = a less than part-time income.
And as has been discussed elsewhere, this career is less about knowing how to sell, it really is all about knowing how to prospect.
