Cracking Down on Health Insurance Companies

I'm lost again. For states that have their risk pool administered by the government you're telling me that an uninsurable person without coverage for 3 months who needs an idie plan can get coverage? I'll all ears since the waiting period is 6 months.

I'm talking about the other 56 states Chumps. MD also has a risk pool that takes people year round. Not all states do hence my example of someone not being able to get a policy in Florida if they've only be uninsured 3 months.

We can also address kids where most states only have OEP to accept child-only policies 1 or 2 months out of the year. What about the rest of the year? No policy for you.

My statement was "we need a system were everyone willing to pay....gets insurance." I maintain my point that in most states we're not there yet.

Crab...I was simply referring to the state (not really states) that I spend time writing in.

As far as "willing to pay," I'm sure there are other states where folks can get coverage...if they are willing to pay. That's my point.

I don't agree with the premise that people should be able to get health insurance when they want it. People should be willing to get health insurance when they can get it.

Most uninsured have had opportunities to purchase health insurance or enroll in a program in some capacity along the way but for whatever reason have passed on those opportunities.

Any system that allows people to get health insurance only when they want it is an adverse-selection system.

So apparently here in NC, there are some ways to get assistance with your auto insurance from the government. A client brought me the paperwork and everything herself.

If we can get public assistance on having our auto insurance paid, why can't we have it where they assist with paying health insurance? It seems like that would be a better option than having to provide a premium-free medicaid where the state pays for the medical charges, too. Health insurance companies get their money, the state doesn't lose as much money...sounds good to me.

Just a thought...
