Crazy Coverage Request

I have a prospect who is a doctor that insists on having uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage also fall under his umbrella policy for excess coverage.

I've tried to tell him you can't do this, not with any of my carriers anyhow. Is there a carrier, specifically in PA that will provide such a thing? I've never had this presented to me before.

Don't know about PA but I think state farm does offer um on PUP. But the answer is yes it can be done by some carriers. Had an attorney ask me about it once...

I guess I need to narrow this down to Pennsylvania as it looks as though it is a state specific issue. Anyone know if this applies to any carriers in PA?

BTFuzz, UM coverage on an umbrella is not uncommon (at least in Florida). Check out personalumbrella.com. I believe they are writing business in all 50 states.

most all Umbrellas have UM/UIM but it is outrageously expensive, so 99% of people dont take it, but you can certainly get it.

By the way, how did you answer the question to the client since you dont know about it, just curious

Well, he wants Erie Insurance since he is moving from another state (TN) and already has them. Erie provides this in the state of TN but does not in PA. So I told him I am going to look around to see if I can locate coverage. I never really indicated that I didn't know...

UM/UIM coverage for an umbrella can be an endorsement with most companies and it usually cost a lot more for this endorsement. 100% more is not unusual.

I would check out USLI, RLI, and Chubb. Morstan agency will get you to USLI and RLI, I'm not sure who will get you to Chubb though.

Safeco, Chubb, Chartis, Firemans Fund Premier, USLI

www.personalumbrella.com used to offer it but I think they put in a sublimit when they switched from Navigators paper to AAIC. You can double check it.

It is usually attorneys that are concerned about that coverage. They want to be able to sue their own carrier for big limits if the person that harmed them has low limits.
