Crazy Coverage Request

Being that I've worked with high end clients for years maybe I have a different perspective than some.
So can you tell me why one would NOT want UM/UIM coverage under their PUP policy? I have it on mine.

I can think of lots of reasons why I would want it but no reason why I would reject it.

Do your recommend your clients reject UM/UIM on their primary auto policy? I think most of us would say they are nuts if they do. It pays for a whole lot more than just medical bills. You don't have to die to collect it. It pays for pain & suffering, for temporary/permanent disability, loss of wages and more. What if my son's in a wheelchair due to the action of the at-fault party? What if my wife who is a surgeon, lost the use of one arm? Those are just Two reason's I'd want the PUP to ride on UM/UIM. I truly see no down side.

Unfortunately, more & more companies are not offering this coverage any more.

So if it was me, I do not care that it doubles the cost of the PUP. I would not buy one without it. I'd find an agent that offers it.

That's my view for what it's worth. Your mileage may vary:1err:

P.S. I'd say your doctor client has had excellent financial/insurance advice to require this coverage on his policy!

My Chubb umbrella does. Policy doesn't break down the premium.

$618/year includes

Our home (rental)
1 personal vehicle
1 company

2MM excess
1MM UM/UIM

generally the cost of UM/UIM on an umbrella is2 or 3 times the umbrella rate,

Some people will pay 200 bucks for an umbrella, but not the extra 4-600 to add the UM/UIM
