I have a local firm, whose reputation is beyond stellar, approach me about doing a website. My current site is flash based and really has not done anything for me beyond saying that I have a website. With some recent contract changes, I want a site that actually works to make me money via site traffic and referrals. Their website is spinlight dot com They developed a friends site call simplyamish dot com that I really like the uniqueness of. I am confident that they can make my site really stand out from my competition but maintain simple and clean navigation.

Here's the catch, it's $3700 to build the site. They will give me the ability to make changes (ie a blog etc) so it should be fairly easy to maintain. I have not sat down with them yet but I do not believe this includes any SEO work which I know is vital.

I don't have any real qualms with the pricing other than I don't know if the investment is worth it? I hear of others on this board that have paid far less and are seeing results. So, the question is...is it worth the risk to pay more to hopefully sell more? Any thoughts you guys have is appreciated.

I will do that. I would also like to speak with Dave Miller on the SEO part but have no way of PM him (assumption is due to my low post count). My email is [email protected] Happy to call him on my dime.

For their quality of work it is actually a decent price (Design and Programming), but that being said it can always be done at a cheaper price point. Setup a hosting account that has WordPress and by a cheap WP Template and there you go, website.

As I have heard said in the ad agency world: Good, Cheap or Fast. Pick two. If you want it Fast and Cheap it won't be Good. Good and Cheap it won't be Fast. And Good and Fast it won't be Cheap.

Valdet and Dave can get you going in the right direction or at least a baseline to compare to the current bid you have.

Site design is only going to play into a portion of your ROI. Content (Fresh and Relevant), Design, Optimization, Keywords / Phrases and Marketing/Advertising. And the ability to change content will need to include a CMS (Content Management System), not just a blog.
