I was just referred to nutshell. It's your typical 30 day free trial and then only$10 a month. It's not free but $10 is cheap. Sync's with phones. Support is awesome. Quick replys from cust svc.
I was "trying" to use Base Crm. Not sure if it's just for Mac but it's free.
Nutshell or do a search for nutshell crm.
I've developed one for myself, it integrates a map so I can 'see' where all my clients are based on criteria such as Presentation Status, Priority, Service Work, etc...basically works on any browser, iphone, android and BB (except BB won't do the maps)
It's really helped me focus on what's really important while I'm in the field. Previously, my problem was having to stare at 300 dots on my GPS, not knowing the story behind each, just a name. And it was no help at all showing me a filtered list of certian 'types' of contacts.
Now I do this: Look at my Priority 1 leads and see where they all are, route them out for my basic 'structure'. Then click the map for lower priority leads, tap the pins of those who are close to my 'main route' and read their notes, see if it's worth stopping by. I then do the same with my service work and weigh out all my options. Who can I go see today, and who will I just need to hound on the phone (ex cancelations who are avoiding me, etc)
This way I'm able to put my top focus on my top priorities...without forgeting about the other folks, just see them on the way.
I could also post screen shots of the mobile crm version and the PC version just let me know if you're interested.
Anyways, pictures say a 1000 words, this is what I think a good crm should look like. For Final Expense, If it dosn't put my contacts on a map, it really isn't worth my time, as it dosn't do me very much good. It's why I had to build my own.

Basically a list of querries, and then some of the resulting maps. I can click the red push pins to get a popup with all that contact's info like spouse, address, phone, any notes I have on them etc...
The ones I like, I add to the route....when I'm done adding to the route, I can optimize the route and see it on the map.
I think it's great to see a FE specific CRM thread. So many of the other 50 crm threads and the products they discuss are so generalized. FE is so outside, I can't use something that just manages my office. It really helps me to have a tool that manages the geographic structure of my day.

First off, I'm the owner of Impress Leads. With that out of the way, though our mail house ins't fully up and running, our CRM is. It is free. There isn't an iphone app yet, but I'm working with the developer of Senbei iphone mobile app to get it available here in the US that will work with the system we have. Let me know if you have any questions.
I'm always up for "free". When can we talk about it? We are still getting comfortable with Nutshell so not tied down to anything yet.
