Dashes In Web Domains

hypens are better than misspellings in my opinion. If I noticed the misspelling, I would think that the person was trying to mislead me in to thinking they were something they weren't and I would lose trust in them and find the original intended website.

The odd thing is...when I started this thread, I really wanted a domain, but someone else purchased it last year. So I was going to use a dash with the same key words.

Oddly, I just found out that I own the domain! I guess I forgot that I had purchased it, so I won't be using dashes after all. Or is that after-all?

The contrary argument to hyphened domain names is that a SEO can parse the name in the right circumstances. I have domains that are hyphened and not and have tracked how each do. Here is the point:

If you had both ohioinsurance.com and ohio-insurance.com as domanin names, which do you suppose most SEOs would be able to spot as two relevant terms --Ohio and Insurance?

Ideally, if you owned both domains, you might want the hyphenated name as your main domain and the other redirected to the main domain for those folks who forget to type in the hyphen.

Anyway, the key words and placement within your site are much more important than whether your domain name is searchable.
