Death Claim on Final Expense - Carrier Won't Disclose Decision to Agent

Agreed. Good points. I have a follow up this coming week with the client. Good suggestions.

Yeah I most likely will be second to know.

Also, good question on me disclosing the insurance company. There are a few reasons I don't feel comfortable with that, but mainly because I don't think its smart to have a smear campaign. I recognize that maybe it was the exception and not the rule. Maybe the person on the phone was having a bad day. I'm sure my agency has made mistakes and I would hope others would treat me the same way.
You're right. What difference does it make as it could be any of them in any given situation? No sense feeding the gossip mill.:nah:

While we as agents may feel we are entitled to health information from the carrier, every company I am aware of has interpreted HIPAA to say otherwise. They feel they are prohibited from sharing any information with us that the applicant has not shared.

Fortunately we have two things in our favor. 1st, usually a simple chat with a claims representative will give us a clue where the problem is. Even something like what Wino mentioned earlier, "It involves question 3a" is enough to have a pretty good idea why.

2nd, if you are working with the family, then you have the relationship and should easily be able to get the reason or even a copy of the denial letter from them.

I will say, I am surprised the company would not disclose if the policy is being rescinded or not. In every instance, the company has sent me a letter saying as much, so they could exercise their right to recover commissions.

Some even send out a "Tell us why its your fault" questionnaire.

Right. I will have to know if the claim is paid if they want me to reimburse any earned premium. I thought that was logical too.

I'm just waiting on their letter to get to the client at this point.

Every situation is unique but I wonder how many big P&C customers also buy FE. Most FE customers are more at the "renter's insurance on the single wide" level...no criticism just jumped out reading this thread.
