I have a dentist client that tells me stories of people who come to see him after some hack in another country made matters worse. I suppose there are good dentists in Mexico, Guatemala, etc but who knows how to find them?
I've had clients here in the USA that have had their teeth ruined by dentists. So it doesn't have anything to do with anything other than the fact that there are good and bad dentists here and good and bad dentists there. Only difference is here you pay thousands for a bad one to screw up your teeth.
Trouble is it's not a black and white issue. Years ago Reader's Digest did a study, not sure of the exact year but I don't think things have changed a lot. I think a lot of people feel like they are getting ripped off. I feel this way, I need some work done and have had estimates from $1,500 to $11,000, how are we supposed to really know what is necessary and/or how do you choose a good dentist? I don't mind paying for good work but.............
