Dental Insurance

At least in CA, there is not underwriting for dental insurance. There is however a waiting period (usually 6 to 12 months) for major services.

The waiting period keeps the junkies and deadbeats away from buying it for a few months, using the benefits, and then cancelling the insurance.

Does anyone have a dental plan that pays for braces, even if there is a waiting period?

Unless you've had oral cancer. Chemo and radiation result in a dry mouth; brushing, flossing helps but your mouth does not get the continual cleaning it needs resulting in more dental problems.

I had the MetLife dental plan where I worked when I was a captive agent. I liked it. You may want to contact them to get more info.

I have always heard that dental insurance is a rip-off. I see more and more families going without it. Up here in Cleveland I have seen doctors pulling out of Anthem's dental network. Since there are caps, and waiting limits, I see dental as a huge gamble. I think a discount card might be best with an HSA. I always recommend Aetna's vital saving's card (they should combine the vision card with the dental card). It is $25 sign up fee, and $15 a month I think.
Besides, I thought Aetna had the biggest dental network.

I have a single dad with 3 daughters that need braces. He doesn't have a lot of money so I'm trying to find him a stand alone plan that will help him out. Does Aetna saving's card a stand alone product?
