Determine contractor's liability Insurance Company

Contractor has business liability insurance and did some damage. Contractor refuses to give insurance company name and policy number. Can anyone suggest how to find out who his liability coverage is with? The state does not have a record of it. He is licensed as a contractor with the state.

Any suggestions other than filing in small claims court?

I am an insurance agent but do not work in P and C. Thanks I appreciate the help.

Looks like someone took the contractor at his word and didn't get a COI...

A letter from your attorney should get a response. If the contractor has insurance AND half a brain, he will forward it on to the insurance company who will respond.

None.

The contractor has no obligation to reveal his insurance. In fact, insurance information is not admissable in court.

If the customer has a valid claim and is getting no response from the contractor then the customer has no choice but to file a lawsuit and hope that the contractor has sense enough to report it to his insurance company.

But, even then, the contractor (or any other type of defendant) has no obligation to get insurance involved, though he would be wise to do so.
